The Bank of England is the central bank of the United Kingdom. Established in 1694, it is the world's second oldest bank, after Sweden's (1668). Among other things, the bank is custodian to the official gold reserves of the United Kingdom and it is very important in maintaining financial
stability in the UK.
During our visit, we will learn about money, the economy, and the history of the Bank of England. The creation of the Bank's iconic Threadneedle Street building is explained. A rotating 'Stories in Focus' display series will look at a different theme or item which will help to gain a new
perspective on the Bank of England's past and present history.
The Bank of England is a very short walk from Bank tube station. We will meet at 10.45 am just inside the main entrance.
The Museum tries to offer good accessibility although there are a couple of steps in some of the Galleries of the Museum. For any assistance, please speak to staff at the information desk or tel:: 020 3461 5545.
After our visit, which will probably take about an hour, we can have tea or coffee in a one of the many nearby cafes.
Entry is free
